Shri Satyanarayan Bansal

Past President

Late Satyanarayan Bansal

Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Delhi Pradesh 1975-1977

Shri Satyanarayan Bansal was born on 27 September, 1927 (Anant Chaturdashi). His father Shri Bishan Swaroop was a social worker and a big coal trader. Satyanarayan received his B.Com, M.A. (Political Science) and Law degrees in first division. He came in contact with revolutionary Master Amir Chand during his student life and participated in the freedom struggle.

Satyanarayan always stood firm on the truth as per his name. Once the British government wanted to remove the Shiv temple near the Old Delhi Railway Station. Under the leadership of Satyanarayan, the local people saved the temple by doing satyagraha. Even today that temple is there. He became a volunteer in 1944 and in 1948, when the Sangh was banned, he did satyagraha and was in jail for six months. After the ban was lifted, he remained the district Karyavah of Chandni Chowk for many years. In 1966, he was in jail for a month during the cow slaughter ban movement.

Along with the Sangh, he worked as an officer in Shri Vaishya Agrawal Panchayat, All India Hindu Mahasabha, Shri Dharmik Ramlila Committee, Indraprastha Sevak Mandali, Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Sanskar Bharti, Hindu Education Committee etc. He also edited a magazine named 'Itihaas' for five years. He was always at the forefront in every work in the interest of Hindus in Delhi. His joining automatically increased the reputation and credibility of that organization. Even after this, he did not get involved with any organization. With the same happiness with which he took responsibility, he also freed himself from it when the time came.

Satyanarayan ji became the Joint Secretary and then General Secretary and President of Delhi Pradesh Jan Sangh in 1969. When the Emergency was imposed in 1975, he did Satyagraha and was imprisoned for 19 months under 'MISA'. After this, he was the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Delhi Municipal Corporation for three years and Senior Vice President of BJP from 1980 to 1987. He was never afraid of dharna, demonstration, lathi and jail. In such times, he used to stay in the forefront and boost the morale of the workers.

In 1987, he again became active in the Sangh. Now he was given the responsibility of Delhi Prant Sanghchalak. He carried out this responsibility for 20 years. For many years, he was the Managing Director and Chairman of Bharat Prakashan Limited, which publishes the weekly Panchjanya in Hindi and Organiser in English. He himself was studious and used to urge all the workers to read a lot.

Satyanarayan ji was loyal not to a person, but to the Sangh. When he became a volunteer, in those days, Shri Vasantrao Oak was the Prant Pracharak, who later separated from the Sangh for some reason; but Satyanarayan ji did not leave the Sangh. He knew every nook and corner of Delhi. The worker would feel this as soon as he sat near him. He used to lay a lot of emphasis on understanding and handling the mind of the worker. For this, he used to discuss a lot with them about home, family and business etc. His opinion was that if the mind of the worker is right, then he cannot live without doing the work of the Sangh.

When it became difficult for him to go anywhere due to his poor eyesight, he would still call workers to his home and benefit them with his experience. He passed away on 19 February 2011. At his condolence meeting, the most revered Sarsanghchalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat said that there is no need to add any other adjective to his name. It is enough to say that he was a volunteer.
